Sixteen Months!

I can't even believe I typed that titled! How can it be?!? In all honesty I've learned that sometimes being a mommy means living in a world where time seems to stop. You know, while you are in the thick of carrying for children it seems like time drags on slower than a turtle during the last mile of a marathon. However, looking back it has flown by so unbelievably fast. Once again, motherhood is a bitter-sweet, painful, wonderful experience...

What are Gabby and Lilly up to these days, you ask?

One word...

Too much!

Okay that was two words, but since there are two I think they should at least be allowed two words!

Gabby (or gaBBY if you say it like she does :) )
  • You try to say everything...socks, shoes, nose, cup (cuppy, rather), outside (side), doggy (goddy pronounced with a long o...and yeah it is so cute!), car, sister, Elmo...you name it, you try it sister!
  • You bite your sister and pull her hair. It is quite unbecoming of you I might add. :) Mommy and Daddy really get on to you about it, but mostly you just enjoy us yelling your name loudly when we try to get you to stop. You just look at us and smile with such satisfaction that your name just got said loud enough for the gods to hear. You also are experimenting with just how hard you have to squeeze for a pinch to hurt and how hard you can give 'gentle' pats before Lilly cries or Mommy says ouch. The only thing that has been successful in getting you to stop is making you watch Lilly as she cries after you've bitten her. You get very upset when you see sister crying. Hopefully this strategy works sooner than later.
  • You love applesauce and oatmeal...again. For the longest you didn't want these things, but because they are spoon foods, you have taken to them again. Speaking of spoons, you use a spoon really well, but would rather scoop up oatmeal, applesauce, cereal, and yogurt with your fingers. You are one messy girl!
  • Apparently you are allergic to bug bites or stings. We don't know what bit you, but your arm swoll up from wrist to elbow and become rock hard. We ended up having to take you to the ER. They said it was serious enough to give you steroids to take and told Mommy and Dada we have to be super vigilent until you are old enough for allergy testing and/or and Epi pen. Fun.
  • You have rhythm, girl. When any music comes on, even the rap music you hear while in a parking lot, you have to move some part of your body. You will kick you legs, bob your head, bounce your knees...you've just got to groove with the music!
  • Reading and playing outside are still your favorite things to do. 'B is for Bear' is your favorite book and we usually read it about 20 times a day.
  • You can pretty much run now. Mommy still thinks this is neat because you will run to her and Dada when you see us.
  • And lastly, baby girl you have persistence that could have only come from your Mommy. I both love it and hate it, but either way you are a force to be contended with, dear. :) Mommy sees herself in you on a daily basis and, even though she sometimes worries what that might mean one day, I just love the way you are! Besides, we type-A, persistent, control freak girls gotta stick together, ya know! :)

  • You are finally starting to say some words! You say shoes (shuuus), try to say socks, spoon (spuuu), ouch, cup (cuppy, at least they are consistent), outside (out), and lots of words I don't understand, but you repeat them over an over. I'll catch on soon, baby.
  • You make up for all the frustration over talking with your million facial expressions. You are so animated little one. Not only do you use them during the day, but in the morning when you sit on the counter to get your hair done, you do them and watch yourself in the mirror. After you do something you just laugh and smile! I'm thinking you might have a future in acting dear.
  • You know where your belly button, my belly button, my nose, and my eyes are. You also know where pants, socks, and shoes go on your body. You try to get them on yourself, but still need help from Mommy and Dada.
  • Your favorite play place, other than outside, is in Mommy and Dada's closet. I'm just certain it has nothing to do with how long you napped in there. :) You like hiding and rolling around in the hang up clothes. You and sister also like trying to get in the dog crates.
  • You LOVE flushing the toilet. In truth, you love everything about someone else using the potty...you like it so much that you clap when the toilet flushes. We are looking into getting potty seats soon...yikes!
  • Usually you warm up and become comfortable at new places quicker than Gabby. Lately, however, you've been having a rough time with that. You want Mommy ALL the time. You don't have to be held, but you'd really prefer Mommy to just sit in the floor and not move all day. That way you could keep an eye on her at all times!
  • You are an experienced kisser! :) You want to give everyone you see a kiss and they usually let you. Nevermind that you kiss with your mouth open and tongue sticking out...you are such a sweet and cuddly girl. :)
  • The best way to sum you up, Lilly Girl, is to say that you have a personality bigger than you Mommy, Dada, and sister put together. You keep us entertained! I often wonder how someone as little as you can make me feel so loved, but you do sweetheart.

Pictures, pictures...that's what you all want anyway!

Gabby * Lilly

This was the day the girls turned 4 months old. And, it was the worst day we ever had I think...the monitor got turned off and they cried who knows how long before I heard them (and you thought I was a great mom...ha!) and they paid me back for it ALL day long. Lucky for all of us they were in a picture taking mood on this day.

Can you say wiggly? One year after our worst day we had a great day! I just have to say I am one proud mama lion. :)
