Lilly's First Boo

Silly Lilly sat on wall.

Silly Lilly had a great fall.

But all the kings horses,

And all the kings men,

Glued
our sweet Lilly together again!

And, no Grampa Crabb...even though Lilly looks like she might be heading in the direction of being a red head with green eyes in this pictures, this is the closest you are going to get. Sometimes my camera has a mind of its own!

Lilly's 'boo,' as she called it, is all healed now. She looks as good as new!

The rest of the story:

Last week Lilly was playing (perhaps a little too much) while in the tub. She slipped and busted her eye open on the way down. Immediately she got swollen and started to bleed so we decided to take her to the emergency room to make sure nothing was damaged internally. We really felt like the outside wasn't bad at all.

Once at the hospital, the doctor attempted to reopen the laceration created during the fall. He was hoping it wouldn't open back up, but as luck would have it, it did. He suggested we glue it back together. This option was much preferred to the usually stitching method.

The doctor put eye drops in Lilly's eye, which stung like the devil, and the a type of dye so he could see her cornea clearly and ensure there was no damage to the eye itself. There wasn't any.

Then he began the process of gluing Lilly back together. This took a little more time because he had to be very careful not to glue her eyelid shut. After a few minutes of gluing and drying, the whole ordeal was over with.

Because we had to hold Lilly down (arms, legs, head...the whole deal) for almost 10 minutes, she was quite upset. In fact, that is a huge understatement. Even once she was allowed up in my arms she was screaming, throwing her head around, and thrashing all about. I've never seen my little girl so upset and out of sorts. We finally calmed her by letting her 'wash' her hands. There is something about water that truly is very soothing.

While the whole ordeal was a little traumatic for both Lilly and Mommy, I couldn't help but leave the hospital that night thinking of all the children in the world that endure procedure after procedure daily with the hope of wellness and healing. My heart goes out to these children and their families. By no means do I know what weeks and weeks of hospitalizations would be like for both child and parent, but I do know how upsetting it was for me to see my child endure pain for a short period of time. I just want to ask anyone reading this to keep these sick children in your thoughts and prayers. They will most certainly be in mine.
